Books - Jan & Feb 2019
Finished reading/listening 5 books in first 2 months. My goal is to read 15 books this year. Here are short reviews of each book.
1. Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of NIKE
Story of founding Nike, the shoe manufacturer. It was an exciting read.
I know that this is a one sided story - might need more reading to understand all aspects. Especially the part about the first employee. For some reason I found saying his sister is the first employee, not convincing. Still, I decided, when I buy a new shoe next, I'll buy Nike.
2. The Great Depression: A Diary
A must read if you are interested in financial markets. This is an actual diary notes of someone who went through the great depression in the 1930s.
3. The Design of Everyday Things
Another great book. This book will make you think the impact of design in every day life. You'll start thinking about the design of things surrounding you.
4. The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness
I started this because I know about Dave Ramsey's radio show and podcast. He mentions about his method "baby steps" in each and every episode. Also, the book had several good reviews. But it is more of a marketing pitch rather than an actual book with decent content.
I am not saying the concept he is saying is bad. In fact, I am all for the steps he is talking about. But it is worth a blog post rather than a detailed book.
If you never started thinking about finance and saving, consider it. Otherwise avoid. There are way better finance books our there.
5. Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
Good book if you are looking to improve your work efficiency. Talks about several instances of successful people. In this world were social media is touching each and every aspect of your life, it is a good read to re-think about your performance.
